  1. Bar Fly 4 (BF4) Mounts general description & information

BF4 mounts evolved from the original Bar Fly mounts; injection molded from our proprietary Nylon formula.  All BF4 mounts include 7 interchangeable computer heads (Garmin, Wahoo, Cateye, Bryton, Polar, Mio, and Joule or Omata), a GoPro® base, and a Universal Light accessory.  This makes BF4 mounts compatible with most popular bicycle computers, and most lights with GoPro base compatibility.  The Universal light mount will hold a round light up to 1” diameter.  All components and hardware are available as spares.

BF4 MAX & MINI –  You need 12mm (1/2”) clear space of round handlebar on the left side of the stem to clamp on to.  Handlebar clamp diameter is 35.0mm (which accommodates newer ATB bars), and a 31.8mm shim is included to fit most other bars.  It is possible to stack additional shims (not included), to fit smaller diameter bars. 

The only difference between MAX and MINI is the reach.  MAX is long enough to hold a Garmin 1030 / Edge 1000 or Wahoo Element.  MINI is 18mm (11/16”) shorter and will hold smaller computers.  MAX reach is helpful for longer lights or cable clearance issues.  Both include a GoPro® compatible base that allows simultaneous use of computer and light or camera.  A Di2 junction box mount is also included that can replace the clamp nut.  It can be used simultaneously with computer and light.

BF4 PRIME – Sturdy aluminum construction lets you carry the heavy loads with minimal flex.  PRIME features an adjustable position plate, so you have room for the biggest computers, or bring smaller computers closer to the bar.

PRIME includes a molded nylon GoPro® compatible base that allows simultaneous use of computer and light or camera when mounted to the bottom of PRIME.  A Di2 junction box mount is also included but cannot be used simultaneously with the GoPro base. The aluminum Bar Fly Race GoPro® base (not included) is compatible and can be mounted on the top and bottom of PRIME for light and camera combos.

BF4 MTB – The BF4 MTB mounts on the right side of the stem and holds your computer or light over the stem.  This position better protects your accessories compared to an “out front” mount.

You need 12mm clear space of round handlebar on the right side of the stem to clamp on to.  Handlebar clamp diameter is 35.0mm (which accommodates newer ATB bars), and a 31.8mm shim is included to fit most bars.  It is possible to stack additional shims (not included), to fit smaller diameter bars. 

MTB includes a GoPro base that can mount instead of a computer (MTB is top mount only and will not carry a computer and light or camera simultaneously). 

BF4 TT -  The BF4 TT fits on forward facing, 22.2mm or 24.0mm aero bars.  You need 12mm clear space of round handlebar to clamp on to, and there must be enough space between the bars for your computer.  Handlebar clamp diameter is 24.0mm, and a 22.2mm shim is included to fit most aero bars. 

BF4 TT includes a GoPro® compatible base that allows simultaneous use of computer and light or camera.   

BF4 STEM CAP – BR4 Stem Cap replaces the round cap on 1 1/8” threadless headsets. The aluminum BF4 is bolted to the star nut inside the steer tube, just like the stock cap.  Any single Bar Fly accessory can be mounted directly to the Stem Cap.  High rise stems may reduce computer clearance.  Hold your computer cleat over your stem cap to confirm clearance.

  1. Bar Fly Race (BFR) Mounts general description & information

BFR mounts are extruded and CNC machined from 6061 aluminum.  All BFR mounts include 6 computer heads (Garmin, Wahoo, Cateye, Bryton, Polar and Mio) to fit most popular computers.  Optional RACE GoPro® compatible base allows you to add a light or camera (not advised for RACE DIRECT due to weight restriction).  All components and hardware are available as spares.

BF RACE MINI  –  You need 10mm clear space of round handlebar on the left side of the stem to clamp on to.  Handlebar clamp diameter is 35.0mm (newer ATB bars), and a 31.8mm shim is included to fit most bars.  It is possible to stack additional shims (not included), to fit smaller diameter bars.  MINI will not hold large sized computers (Garmin 1030 / Edge 1000, Wahoo Elemnt and similar sized units).  The BFR MINI is compatible with optional BF RACE GoPro® compatible base.

BF RACE DIRECT – Mounts directly to slotted faceplates from Cervelo, Felt, Fizik, 3T ARX II.  It does not fit 3T APTO.  Many Cervelo bikes include a compatible slotted face plate.  BFR Direct is long enough for a large computer (Garmin 1030 / Edge 1000, Wahoo Element and similar sized units).  Carrying capacity is limited to 125g, or a large computer only. RACE GoPro® compatible base will fit on the top or bottom, but is not advised.  Use a safety strap when overloading Direct Mount. Specifically when considering 2 devices mounted above and below, weight should be confirmed.

BF RACE SPOON – Mounts to the bottom side of select bar/stem combos (Stealth EVO, Ursus, others).  Mounting slots are in-line, parallel to the stem to allow for adjustable positioning.  Holes must be 15mm – 45mm apart, and have threaded inserts with screws.  BFR SPOON does not include handlebar mounting screws, as specification varies.  Fits Stealth EVO, Ursus and others.  Computer clearance depends on bar and mounting hole position.  The SPOON is compatible with BF RACE GoPro® compatible base.  Check handlebar manufacturer for weight capacity and use a safety strap.

BF RACE FLIPPER – Mounts to GoPro® bases, including Bontrager BLENDR.  The 3-finned base is not included and may be an additional purchase from Bontrager or other stem brands.  All Bar Fly computer heads and optional BF RACE GoPro® compatible base fit on either side, so you can “flip” to accommodate your particular computer, light, and cable routing.  FLIPPER includes 2 extra head mounting screws to use with BF RACE GoPro® compatible base, as the screws included with BF RACE GoPro® are too short for FLIPPER.

BF RACE GOPRO® COMPATIBLE BASE – Mounts to BF RACE and BF4 PRIME mounts, to hold your GoPro camera or light with GoPro® base compatibility.  BF RACE GoPro® is NOT compatible with BF4 Nylon mounts (MAX, MTB etc.).  GoPro® mounting accessory is an available option from many light manufactures (Lezyne, Lights in Motion, Bontrager, etc.).  The included adapter plate allows mounting with screws in left-right, or up-down configurations, depending on computer head used.  4mm diameter mounting screws are included and are not compatible with other mount brands that use 3mm screws.  A 5mm GoPro® screw is included to mount your camera or light.  This can be replaced with a thumb screw (not sold by Bar Fly).

 

  1. Clamp mounts compatibility, installation

You need 12mm (under ½”) of handlebar space so the clamp or shim have full contact with your handlebar.  Most bars will need the included plastic shim.  The shim offers shock dampening and physical protection to the handlebars.

First, install your desired computer head and GoPro compatible adapter if desired.  Some configurations require different hardware included in box.  See individual instructions included with product.  Next, install mount on handlebar.

Nylon molded mounts – The clamp nut is not captive and will fall out when unthreaded.  Note position of nut before removing. Unscrew clamp bolt with a 2.5mm hex (3mm for aluminum mounts). 

Install shim if needed, fit clamp over shim or bar.  Install screw & nut, tighten slightly.  Position shim as desired, then center mount on shim.  Confirm computer angle and tighten to 1.25NM.  This will likely not register on a torque wrench, tighten screw to 1/4 turn past “hand tight or snug.”  WARNING: DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN the SCREW!

  1. Direct mount compatibility & installation

Bar Fly Direct Mounts use a proprietary clamp that attaches to approved stem faceplates.  Direct offers a center, out front computer mount that does not use any “real estate” on the handlebars.  Direct is long enough for large computers (Garmin 1030 / Edge 1000, Wahoo ELEMNT).  The only stems approved for use are all models from FIZIK, 3T ARX II, and the latest CERVELO stems.  Faceplate specifications involve more than adding a slot.  Mounting a Direct on a non-approved stem may result in mount failure.  Bar Fly will provide specifications to interested stem manufacturers.

To install, support handlebar remove faceplate from stem.  Place T-nut on inside of plate, Direct on outside of plate and thread in screw loosely.  Reinstall handlebar / faceplate, torque to spec.  Adjust angle of Direct and tighten screw until mount sits firmly.  It is suggested to use a LIGHT coating of assembly paste (Park Tool SAC-2 or similar), on the mounting surface of Direct.

Direct mounts are rated to carry 125g, which is the weight of large Garmin / Wahoo computers.  Adding a light can more than double the weight limit and is not recommended.  If you choose to overload your Direct mount, use a safety strap.

  1. Cervelo AB04 & AB08 mounts, compatibility & installation

Bar Fly 4 Cervelo is an injection molded mount specifically for the AB04 aerobar.  The clean fit and position was designed for minimum drag and a firm hold for your light or camera under your computer.  A BF4 mount was OEM spec on Cervelo S5 bicycles (2013 – 2017) and included a Garmin head only.  These OEM mounts are compatible with all Bar Fly computer heads and the BF4 GoPro / Accessory Kit (NOT compatible with BF RACE GoPro®).  The boxed version includes 7 interchangeable computer heads (Garmin, Wahoo, Cateye, Bryton, Polar, Mio, and Joule), a GoPro® base, and a Universal Light accessory. 

Bar Fly AB08 SPOON was included with every CERVELO S5 bicycle with an AB08 aero bar / split stem combo (2018 – 2019), and some P series bicycles with HB11 & EX11 bars.  OEM spec on P series was the decision of CERVELO, please contact Cervelo regarding fit issues. 

AB08 SPOON is the same profile as RACE SPOON, but cut and drilled specifically for AB08.  Bikes came with a Garmin head installed, but all Bar Fly computer heads and BF RACE GoPro® base are compatible.

ABO8 RACE SPOON is our aftermarket version.  We milled out the head like all RACE mounts, and engraved our mascot on top before anodizing.

  1. Specialized Stem mounts with Bar Fly accessories notes

The SPECIALIZED brand computer mount is included with several models of SPECIALIZED brand bicycles.  The mount and stem interface are designed and produced by SPECIALIZED.  BAR FLY BIKE supplies all Nylon adapters including computer heads and GoPro bases.  The SPECIALIEZED mount is compatible with both BF4 GoPro® base and BF RACE GoPro® base.  If your SPECIALIZED bicycle is missing any mount hardware, or you have issues with any metal component, see your SPECIALIZED dealer (we do not supply hardware to Specialized).

SPECIALIZED stem faceplates are not compatible with BAR FLY RACE DIRECT.
